MakeUp: New Beauty Adviser App
I was invited to try a new app called MakeUp which was recently featured in WWD. “The ultimate vision is that a customer walks into a store like Duane Reade, approaches a beauty counter looking for a foundation and uses ModiFace for product recommendations and to see how shades look on her,” says Parham Aarabi, CEO of ModiFace.
You can either upload a photo of yourself or select a model to test how certain products would look on you. You can also sample event-specific looks (i.e. galas or date night). Once a consumer is ready to purchase a particular product, he or she can do so directly through the app.
They give you small swatches of the product and then when you click it, it tells you which brand and color it is. The only downside is it's hard to decipher the difference between all the colors since there are so many versions of one color like black.
I definitely like the idea of sampling the product virtually while at the shopping since I know that's one of the issues with buying at the drug store. I'm excited to see where this app goes. I'd love to see it expand to nails!
