While looking ahead to 2013, I'd like to make a few predictions about major fashion trends. Some we're already seeing the blossoming of so hold on... they'll be around at least another two seasons. Here are my 5 trend predictions for the coming year:
1. '90s in full force. This trend is slowly trickling from the streets to the runways. We saw hints of it on the Spring 2013 runways but by 2013 it will be in full force. Fashion is a cycle and we tend to get nostalgic about past decades. However, we were stuck in the '80s for quite awhile so I'm glad we're moving on to a new decade. I'm not glad that the decade I grew up in is now "retro" because that means I'm old (lol!). But, I predict we'll all be wearing flannel shirts around our waists in no time.
Pantone has announced that Emerald green is the color of 2013. There were a lot of garden and nature influences on the runways along with the sea. I think because 'global warming' is going to be a major issue that our country needs to discuss (especially after Hurricane Sandy) that designers are paying homage to this beautiful green planet that we're quickly losing. However, retailers have discussed how green is one of the least popular colors so it will be interesting to see how far this trend will go.
my love of this trend already; however, I think it's going to grow in size. I think it took awhile to take off because were hesitant and weren't sure they could pull off such a bold statement.
5. Bondage. Women are feeling empowered. After the 2012 election where we reclaimed the rights to our bodies and told politicians "hands off" - 2013 will be the year of the powerful woman. Leather was a big trend in 2012 but that trend will only continue to grow in to more bondage-inspired pieces. Body harnesses and bondage inspired heels are already being worn by fashion's elite. It was in the '90s that Elizabeth Hurley wore that famous Versace safety pin dress so now we'll be seeing our starlets wearing body harnesses on the red carpet.
