Mani of the Week: Faded Pastels

Pastels are always a big warm weather trend. Something about them makes you feel fresh and light. I recently received Julep's Jessica during a swap and thought it would like great with some other Julep pastel colors I have. I did the sponging affect to create what I'm calling a "faded pastels" look.

Review: My August Beauty Box 5

Yes... another box (lol!). I read about Beauty Box 5 on another blog and since I haven't found the perfect glass slipper when it comes to beauty subscription sites, I thought I'd give it a try. For $12, you receive 4-5 samples. When I registered at the end of July, they informed me that my August box would ship middle of the month. To me that translates to the 15th. So when I hadn't heard anything about the status of my box this weekend, I reached out. The customer care representative who responded was very short with me. The box shipped on 20th and I received it yesterday. Quick shipping when it did eventually ship. Let's see what I got:

New Favorite Beauty Brand: Grand Central Beauty

I'm slowly working through all the great beauty brands I met at HBA this year. Grand Central Beauty was founded by Jackie Lee who has years of experience in the industry. However, she always wanted to create her own skincare line so she used her knowledge to create GCB. I unfortunately wasn't able to snag a sample at HBA but she kindly followed up with me and mailed me one of her famous S.M.A.R.T. Skin Perfecting Masks to try.

My weekend was focused on my GRE prep classes so it was productive but not very interesting. But more importantly... FOOTBALL SEASON IS UPON US! Pre-season games are underway and the official season opens up with my New York Giants on September 5th. Can't wait!

On Thursday, I had the pleasure of meeting ELLE magazine's Beauty Director, Emily Dougherty for Beauty Editors Day at Saks Fifth Avenue in support of Look Good, Feel Better. 32 of the top beauty editors and 32 of their favorite beauty brands provided 20-minute makeovers with top makeup artists. I was lucky to have celeb makeup artist Christian McCulloch at Dolce & Gabbana. Before the event she took time to answer some of my burning beauty questions!

Trend I'm Currently Craving: Steel Toed Shoes

Well they're not exactly "steel" toed. I'm loving the two-toned look on shoes especially with the metal cap. It gives an edge to a sophisticated shoe. It looks great on a flat and on heels as well. Currently lusting after these beauties:

My August Birchbox

My August Birchbox finally arrived! The theme was "Back to School" which tied in with their new program to help Pencils of Promise build a school. All month, Birchbox will donate 15% of proceeds from the Shop to Pencils of Promise with the goal of building a school in Central America. So awesome!

Friday: My parents were in the city helping my brother buy everything he could possibly need for his apartment. When I was done with work I met up with them for dinner. By that point every one wanted to kill each other. Moving is so stressful. I hope I don't have to do it anytime soon. After dinner, we headed down to my parent's house down the Jersey shore.

For my nephew's 4th birthday my sister (his mom) wanted to throw him a dinosaur party because he's obsessed dinosaurs. She had created a Pin Board "Kid's Parties" where she was pinning cute ideas. When she approached me for my help, I immediately said "PINTEREST!" There are tons of images for chic parties on Pinterest. She wanted a 'classy' kid's parties that could be enjoyed by the adults as well. She made me a member of the board and I began pinning away to find inspiration:

Watermelon Nails... Two Years Later

One of my favorite manicures of all time were the watermelon nails I did in summer of 2010. When I received my Bodyography nail polish via I-ELLA's The List, I thought it was a perfect watermelon pink. Then the idea hit me to create watermelon nails but make it easier on myself this time! In 2010, there were many steps with tape to separate all the colors on each nail.
