The Oscars are here! Tonight marked the 85th Annual Academy Awards hosted by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. White was a big trend on the red carpet which was refreshing but otherwise there were no big fashion risks that took my breath away. It was disappointing since it's the Academy Awards which is the time to pull out all the stops. Let's break down the red carpet arrivals:
a.k.a the Dior showdown. Charlize Theron looked fresh and modern with her pixie cut. Jennifer Lawrence was the girl of the night but I felt the look was underwhelmed. I also felt her hair was too old for her.
Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway looked pretty in pinks. Anne opted for a more subtle Prada. I was hoping for high-fashion from her so was a little disappointed by this ballerina look. Plus it creates a nipple effect which no girl wants to experience. Jessica Chastain definitely recovered in this Armani Prive number. Stunning!Naomi Watts looked gorgeous in Armani Prive. You have to have a killer body to pull off this look. She's one of my Best Dressed picks.
Zoe Saldana took a risk in Alexis Mabille Couture. You either love or hate the belt. I like it but not sure about the shoes.
Nicole Kidman looked killer in L'Wren Scott black and gold. Like Naomi, you have to have a great body to pull this off. But the hair is a little off for me.
Halle Berry played it safe in Versace. But I guess if it's not broke, don't fix it.
Say what you will, but I love Adele. She doesn't change her style for anyone and I think she looked beautiful in Jenny Packam tonight.
Sandra Bullock's sheer Elie Saab dress was gorgeous and fit her beautifully. I just wish she wore different accessories.
Jennifer Hudson's looked banging in Cavalli but I was not a fan of the long hair. It was too long and overwhelming.
Post-baby body Reese Witherspoon looked amazing in this black & blue Louis Vuitton. Welcome back to the red carpet Reese!
Another one of my favorites, Amy Adams was breathtaking in pale blue Oscar de la Renta. Sure it was princess-y but it's the Oscars!
Shout-out to my fashionistas for actually wearing some fashion tonight! Kerry Washington one of my red carpet darlings wore this coral Miu Miu. She was only a presenter (should've been nominated) so I think it was a great, simple number.
Fan Bingbing for wearing this gorgeous pink Marchesa. Wish I got to see it on the red carpet.
Amanda Seyfried was one to watch tonight and she just disappointed. Not big a statement which is hard to do in McQueen!
Oh, Jennifer. Princess gown gone wrong. At least do the hair up! This Valentino gown was wasted on her casual styling.
Just because you're not a size 0, doesn't mean you have to wear a sack Melissa McCarthy. I love you but this does nothing for your body!

Octavia Spencer stayed loyal to Tadashi Shoji but I didn't like all the tulle up by her face. Unfortunately, this is a miss for me.
Who were your picks for Best and Worst Dressed of the night?

Great post! I have to say that I don't like Anne Hathaway's dress because the first thing I thought when I saw it was that she is wearing an apron. I think Amy Adams dress is gorgeous! I am just not a fan of the color. Love Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts!
ReplyDeleteIt was very apron like... it obviously was a second choice :/
DeleteI LOVE Kerry Washington and her dress was amazing!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRed is definitely her color :)

XOXO
She's always refreshing on the red carpet!
DeleteThanks for following :)
Jessica Chastain, hands down. Great round-up here. I totally agree Anne Hathaway's look was bland.
ReplyDeleteKate from Clear the Way
Thanks :)
DeleteBecause of the time difference I'd have to stay up all night to watch the Oscars - which I didn't, but there's a rerun tonight so I might watch it then. Charlize T. looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteoh that's a bummer
DeleteMy favorites were Jennifer Lawrence, Kerry Washington and Naomi Watts. Man were those Oscars long!
ReplyDeletestar-crossed smile
TOO LONG!
DeleteJennifer Lawrences white dress is the best! I love how fairytale it is.
ReplyDeleteEspecially with her fall on the stairs lol
DeleteMy favorite was Naomi Watts! I agree with you about Jennifer Lawrence... I was underwhelmed. My first thought was Middle America is going to love this (I'm so mean, I know).
ReplyDeletelol you're honest ;)
DeleteI really loved Amanda. I think it would have been better in a color because she looked so washed out, but her overall look was great. She and Naomi were my favorites.
ReplyDeleteYeah the color definitely washed her out and hated the hair :/
